Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt did not have a “secret meeting” to call a “truce,” despite a story that got picked up and widely spread without fact-checking the claim. Gossip Cop can exclusively correct these reports. We’re assured by an insider that the meeting “didn’t happen.”

According to ET Online, after Jolie allegedly reached out to Pitt to “improve their co-parenting relationship,” the two had a private tete-a-tete. A supposed “source” is quoted as telling the outlet, “Brad and Angelina actually set up a secret meeting at her house… Brad and Angie’s meeting was a success.” Adds the questionable “source, “Angelina decided it was time to try to make things work.”

Gossip Cop is going to stop right here and point out how the story is made-up. Glaringly, the site doesn’t mention when this so-called “secret meeting” took place. Had it really occurred, the outlet would have mentioned an actual date rather than saying it all happened “recently.” Additionally, ET Online offers no new information from the alleged “meeting.” While it claims the get-together was a “success,” it reveals nothing more than how Pitt and Jolie are “going to stay with the plan set forth through the courts.” How exactly is that a “success” or even news?

But the real tipoff that the purported “source” or outlet concocted this tale are the quotes. First it’s said “Brad and Angelina” had a “secret meeting” in her home, before it maintains “Brad and Angie’s meeting was a success.” That’s followed by the same highly suspect “source” contending “Angelina decided it was time to try to make things work.” Is she “Angelina” or “Angie”? Whoever manufactured those quotations couldn’t keep his or her story straight. No one in real life would refer to Pitt in the space of a few sentences as alternately “Brad” or “Bradley.”

But that phony phraseology wasn’t just in the beginning of the article. Later in the outlet’s story, after discussing how the judge ordered Jolie to give Pitt more visitation time with the kids, the same “source” says, “Angelina created a very difficult situation,” but when she saw how the children reacted to being with their dad, it “helped Angie try a different tact.” Again, is she “Angie” or “Angelina”? A legitimate “source,” who’s close to her, would only call her by one name.

Gossip Cop has been debunking stories for nearly a decade and immediately knew something was off. Regardless, we reached out directly to a number of sources and one Pitt insider assured us the report about the “secret meeting,” which offered no specifics, “never happened.” Gossip Cop has yet to hear back from Jolie and Pitt’s reps.
